We at Kids Come First feel that the issues surrounding the protection of our children should be a main priority in the minds of every decent American.  However, some of our legislators are either unaware or unwilling to step up and recognize the epidemic that is spreading through-out our Nation.

What Happened to the Cyber Safety for Kids Act of 2006

It is with our deepest regret to inform you that ICANN the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers has voted to reject the implementation of the .xxx Top Level Domain (TLD) for use with pornographic websites. The failure of this proposal has had an adverse affect on the Cyber Safety for Kids Act of 2006 (Senate Bill S.2426) thus altering its approach. ICANN voted against the proposal because it would force ICANN to monitor content (something they don’t do now) and that it would not achieve its goal of protecting children. We adamantly disagree!  Click below for more information.

March 30,2007: Internet Oversight Agency ICANN votes against the XXX Domain Name for Porn Sites

The Cyber Safety For Kids Act 2006 Senate Bill S.2426 was merely a common sense approach that in our opinion, did not infringe on First Amendment Rights or Free Speech.  It adhered to everyone's rights and allowed for the basic principles of democracy that exist in the freedom of choice.  Some believe that moving pornographic material to a .XXX domain designation will not stop the pornographic industry from enhancing their presence on the world wide web and we agreed!  It would be naive to think that the pornographic industry would just disappear.  Again, the alternative of doing nothing and not allowing at least a freedom to choose would be ludicrous, unproductive, and at the expense of children.

Cyber Safety for Kids Act Re-introduced

Senator Max Baucus (MT) and Senator Mark Pryor (AR) have re-introduced the Cyber Safety for Kids Act. Although it has changed in content it is a prime example of the determination of these two gentlemen to persevere in the light of adversity. Their commitment to the safety and protection of our children is without question. Our organization is proud to be in support of their ongoing efforts. We would expect all members of Congress to follow their lead.

Please visit the Press Release link below for a look at the “New" Cyber Safety for Kids Act introduced by Senators Baucus and Pryor.
