It is long past due that the General Assembly begin to show us that the sexual molestation of children will
not be tolerated in North Carolina. Year after year they refuse to pass stricter laws to address this enormous problem. As
every day passes more children are falling victim to these horrific crimes and some are paying the ultimate price while
political correctness and years of debate over funding rule the day. The time has come to get our priorities in line and consider
the real cost of this constant delay.

HB-933 Closer to becoming law in North Carolina
We are pleased to report that as of July 31, 2007 the North Carolina House has passed the "Jessica Lunsford Act for North
Carolina" by a vote of 114 to 0. The bill will now move to the Senate floor for approval if it is to become law.
Representatives Tim Moore and Debbie Clary, both primary sponsors called the passage to the Senate a victory for children
across the state and are hopeful that the Senate will find a way to pass the bill.
The bill if passed will make North Carolina eligible for federal funds under the "Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety
Act of 2006" which could offset the cost of the legislation.

House Bill 933 Resides in Commitee
On April 24, 2007 the Judiciary II Committee met in session to discuss the fate of House
Bill 933 better known as The Jessica Lunsford Act for North Carolina. Due to the so called
complexity of the 11 page bill it has been referred to a six member sub-committee for further review and instructed to report
back to the full committee by May 17, 2007 and moved to Appropriations if favorable.
HB-933 if passed would act to provide that certain criminal offenses of rape
or first degree sexual offense commited against a child are punishable by either life imprisonment or a mandatory active sentence
of 25 years and life time satellite based monitoring among other increased penalties for sexual crimes commited against children.

April 25, 2007 Mark Lunsford speaks to Raleigh lawmakers in support of Jessica's Law. “No parent should have to experience what I’ve experienced,” Mark said. “Sexual
predators need to be given a strong message – we don’t want you here,” he continued. “It is imperative
that violent sex offenders are incarcerated for a very long time, where they can’t molest our children.”
